Local Routes

FlyScenic operates from a great location. The flights go from Tatenhill airfield, which is ideally placed, close to the Staffordshire/Derbyshire border, permitting flights over some wonderful scenery such as the Peak District National Park and Staffordshire moorlands.

FlyScenic prides itself on delivering a truly memorable experience and the pilot will aim to tailor the flight to suit your personal interests. Air experiences may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Staffordshire Countryside and Market Towns:

Lichfield, the cathedral city, can be combined with the market towns of Uttoxeter and Burton-upon-Trent, the latter straddling the Trent with its famous brewery dominating the town centre. Together with gentle rolling farmland and the forested area of Cannock Chase, this makes for a great all-round and varied flight. Alternatively, a flight could include Stafford and/or Stoke-on-Trent.

  • Cannock Chase

Introduction to the Peak District National Park:

Ashbourne, the gateway to the Derbyshire Dales, is situated close to Alton Towers, Dovedale, Carsington Water and Bakewell. Further north, the dales give way to the wild landscape of the high moorland south of Buxton.

The Dam Busters Run

Fly over the Hope Valley in the Peak District to Ladybower, Howden and Derwent Reservoirs, the practice area used by the 617 Squadron before they dropped the bouncing bombs on the Ruhr Dams in 1943. Note: a 90-minute air experience flight is required to reach the dams from Tatenhill.

Stately Homes, Historic Houses and Castles:

The local area is rich in heritage. Derbyshire boasts the magnificent Chatsworth estate (home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire), Haddon Hall near Bakewell, Bolsover Castle and many more. Staffordshire offers Shugborough Hall (ancestral home of the Earls of Lichfield) on the edge of Cannock Chase, Sandon Hall near Stafford, Tutbury Castle (a largely ruined medieval castle) and Catton Hall (a frequent festival venue).
